The RNA Showgrounds is home to Brisbane’s renowned agricultural exhibition show, the ‘Ekka’. Held over 10 days each August, the Ekka is Queensland’s largest carnival with plenty of shows, rides and displays. Over the course of its 130 year history, the Ekka ground has hosted ‘inter-colonial’ tennis games, cricket and rugby league matches, athletics, trotting, cycling and speedway racing. During the second World War, the Exhibition Grounds became a staging camp for the Armed Services. The legendary Don Bradman debuted at the Exhibition Ground when it was the venue for first class cricket from 1893 to 1931. Nowadays, the Exhibition Ground is used mainly for equestrian events, speedway racing and, of course, the Ekka.
