Sports fanatics will think they’ve died and gone to heaven at the Sleeman Sports Complex. Originally built to host the 1982 Commonwealth Games, the venue has been continually upgraded, and has since hosted the 1994 World Masters Games and the 2001 Goodwill Games. The venue boasts a state-of-the-art indoor aquatic centre featuring an Olympic size pool, a moveable bulkhead enabling the centre to adapt to host short course events, a world class diving pool, and seating for more than 4,300 spectators. The centre also boasts a 3,000 seat cycling velodrome and a fully equipped gymnastics training hall. The 2,630 seat indoor sports arena is suitable for basketball, volleyball and badminton, and is home to the Queensland Firebirds netball team. Various function rooms – including an intimate 1,500 seat theatre – and special facilities are available for general hire, and are suitable for conferences, concerts and special functions. The fully equipped H2O Fitness Club will help you achieve your fitness goals, and the Puddleducks childcare facility can look after the littlies while you work out. Regular activities include swimming and swimming lessons, diving, aqua pilates and water aerobics. Sporting fixtures are held for indoor soccer, cycling, basketball, swimming, and a number of other sports.
